Also how do you think he will evolve or when will he evolve? Considering his evolution for goodra is "Rain instigated by Rain Dance, Drizzle or Primordial Sea will not trigger this evolution." that means the battle must be in a rain that isn't by the rain dance he already knows.
Thinking about that, the only reason why the writers gave Goomy is so Ash can go full elite and use rain dance with Goodra's Gydration ability to prevent the status effects.
Who knows what they're planning in store though. But Goomy's abilities are all unique being;
1. Sap Sipper to prevent grass type attacks
2. Hydration for potentially effective rain dance combo from Ash
3. We all know Goomy is slimy in the anime so he might have the ability Gooey to slow down opponents.
Also how do you guys think Ash will do against his first ever fairy type gym? I have a feeling it will be a really unique experience to watch.
