I can't speak for the rest of /vp/, mostly because its not a fucking hivemind as so many others claim, but I dislike D/P because many of it's mechanics seemed half-assed or unfinished, a lot of its Pokemon were clunky and/or boring, the towns/cities were really uninteresting (especially compared to some of the beautiful routes that were there), and the music was really, REALLY bland. Even if a lot of what I criticize it for is nitpicking (it probably is), I feel that it takes away from the immersion of a game having to wait six billion years to make it halfway across the water routes, or having music that, plainly put, just isn't good compared to both past and future tracks.
That's not to say that I dislike Sinnoh (it's one of the coolest regions, geographically) or Gen IV (Pt fixed some of the issues, and HG/SS was fantastic), but D/P set the bar really low for a Pokemon game, and even the prior mentioned plus factors weren't really enough to pull it out of it's slump.
I won't deny, however, that it brought forth some really revolutionary features, like online battling/trading, and the Phy/Spc split. Also, Drifloon is one of my favorite Pokemon.
