I fucking love this series so much. I was born in 1993, so I was fortunate enough to remember and be around for THE original Pokemania. I got to see the series grow up right alongside me, and every single generation is strongly associated with a different era of my life. From as early as I can remember, this series has fueled my imagination deeply, and still does. For as many hundreds of designs as there currently are, and even though some of them can be hit-or-miss, there's some unmistakable, yet undefinable quality about Pokemon's monster design philosophy that's just unable to be matched by any imitator. And even when all you have in some games are a static front sprite and a static back sprite, it's so easy to feel a legitimate bond with your fictional pets when you land that clutch crit in an otherwise uphill battle, or when you make it through a really tough route thanks to your squad and emerge in the next city. No matter how any future games turn out, I'll always have a lifetime of memories and a gaggle of fascinating fictional creatures to enjoy. There are few things as exciting as when a cool new batch of Pokemon from an upcoming game gets revealed, and seeing the internet churn out massive amounts of fanart that let you see those new Pokemon in different contexts and environments. It really makes your imagination soar unlike anything else.
