They've added a lot of stuff to help rural players, like daily gifts that can be sent from other trainers on your friend's list which will give you plenty of balls, and there's a daily incense which gives you 15 minutes of spawns while walking and will give you 30 balls if you have none, along with there now being PVP which can be used anywhere and can earn you legendries, which means you don't need to do raids to complete your dex anymore.
It's still imperfect, but getting better by the day. If you decide to play again, post your code so we can all send you gifts.
