I think a lot of the generation 3 abilities were very basic "oh let's add this mechanic" type shit which of course you would come up with if you're just starting out, but as the generations went on the abilities began compacting lots of different effects which makes the earlier abilities just look lame. I think the biggest culprits are all of the generation 3 abilities that just block a status effect or stat reduction because even though obviously you should have abilities like that, there are now newer abilities that do the same thing plus everything fucking else. I think they did a decent job with improving things like Own Tempo or Oblivious over time, but the others need help too.
>Magma Armor
Becomes like Water Bubble: prevents Freeze, reduces Ice damage, and buffs Fire moves. I think this is fine because only two Pokémon have it and they're both not that viable currently. Camerupt would like this a lot more than Magcargo BTW
>Limber
Blocks Paralysis and as long as this Pokémon attacks first on a turn, they have a small chance to dodge an incoming attack because their muscles are warmed up from taking action. And yes, Fake Out counts, so you could conceivably open a double battle with your Persian/Liepard + ally not taking any damage and the opponents completely failing to do anything if they targeted the cat
>Insomnia
Blocks Sleep and now if this Pokemon attacks a sleeping Pokemon there is a 50% chance the target's ability becomes Insomnia too. Would have obvious limits but has some potential
>Vital Spirit
Blocks Sleep and you gain +1 Speed each time sleep is attempted on you. Also activated by Taunt/Torment/etc
>Early Bird
Wakes up from Sleep early but now also has a "your first move when switching in is always +1 priority" effect. I'm not sure if this would save Dodrio, but Kangaskhan, Houndoom, Sunflora, Xatu, and Ledian get it too so...
>Immunity
You can get Poisoned now, but instantly heal and gain +1 Def. Also reduces Poison type damage.
