Ichthyology
Preferably deep-sea ecology/ichthyology in general
I'm interested in the shit that's near the bottom of the ocean, something most people don't care about
Definitely NOT marine biology though. I have no interest in aquatic mammals and I definitely don't want to swim with any fucking dolphins. I'm much more interested in fish and their behaviors and interactions, and very much their adaptations and evolution in benthic ecosystems.
Example: why are there no fish seen below 8300meters? Many other animals like amphipods and other crustaceans are. It has to do with the biology of fish cells and certain enzymes made that help to regulate function under extreme pressure. At least, that's part of it. Not a lot of research is done on this stuff which I find disappointing and would like to change
