The thing I enjoyed about ORAS/XY was while we were given lots of story (something I don't mind shoved in my face because Pokemon really doesn't go to deep into lore/story) there were a lot of hidden clues and tidbits stored all over the place. Like Eternal Flotte in Sootopolis City, Looker in both games, the ghost woman, the SS Mauville notes.
There is so much there and its all fascinating at where the possibilities of it all could go.
The games also seem to be setting up a time line, with ORAS taking place a few years before/after XY and SM now going to be taking place 4 years after XY.
If we do return to Kalos post-game in Sun and Moon the lore would be even greater because old concepts that were left unfinished could be given more depth. Like Zygarde or the Parfume Palace for instance. Then if we return to Sinnoh for Gen 7's remakes, that would be something like we've never seen before considering how rich Sinnoh was lore wise in the original games.
