Blue, Yellow, Silver, Ruby. The first game I owned myself was Silver, played Blue and Yellow with my friends. Been a fan of the series since it arrived in the UK in 1999, played at least one game every gen since. Still a little bitter my Silver team was killed by dead battery. RIP Flame the Typhlosion.

BULBASAUR! Not sure why exactly I picked it to be honest. I'd watched the anime and so I liked Bulby, Squirtle and Charizard. I don't remeber liking Bulbasaur more than the others so I'm not sure what exactly compelled me to pick it when I got the chance to play my first Pokemon game. I don't think I knew what it evolved into either.

But I'm glad I did, and now the entire Bulbasaur line are my favourite Pokemon.

I think I might do the same. I really wanted to use Fennekin but I don't think I can pass up that Torchic. So I think I'll either go Torchic, Chespin, and Squirtle, or Torchic, Froakie, and Bulbasaur. I can always use Fennekin on another playthrough.
