Also, Exeggutor pretty much requires you take Exeggcute, a late-game Pokemon, all the way to level 48 for Sleep Powder if you want to make the most of it.
I agree with Blastoise, Nidoking, Raichu/Jolteon, and Snorlax, though. People can argue that Lapras outclasses Blastoise, but by the time you get it, Blastoise is already a much higher level and has plowed through half of the game. You can grind for Lapras to catch up, but at that point it isn't worth it.
Venusaur a shit because of the nature of its types in battle making the game a slog. And you'll want Nidoking, but definitely don't want to double up on a Psychic weakness with no real counters in Kanto.
Charizard is out because Fire types are pointless. Can easily be replaced by any bird type.
