The entire Ralts line was poisonous once upon a time. They originated from a damp, swampy part of the world, and their appearance, while still humanoid, was more baggy and amorphous. The bright colors they sported was a warning sign to enemies of their potent poison. They also had venomous saliva, used to easily paralyze and digest prey.
A natural disaster forced a good chunk of population to migrate from their old home, and due to finding easier prey, their poison was weakened.
When finally domesticated by humans for being useful pest control, their psychic abilities grew in power due to taking in so many positive emotions from humans at once. This resulted in them having a more definitive human shape and growing more attached to them. They lost the need for poison entirely due to their bonds, changing their type from Psychic/Poison to Psychic/Fairy.
Gallade are mostly the results of humans. When the power of Dawn Stones were discovered, it was shown that they amplified the masculine traits of Kirlia. The knight-like appearance of Gallade was due to kings and nobles requiring guards without sacrificing anymore men due to scarce population.
These venomous ancestors still exist, but only in the same swamp they originated from, making them an incredibly rare variant of Pokemon.
