Current Ash is no longer the Ikemen Ash from XY series so there is no need for keep Serena a haijidere , To be honest , Serena never had any character outside of her crush on Ash to begin with which mean Tomiyasu and other staff can mold her character anyway they want as long as her crush on Ash remains. If you remove the crush then Serena is no different than Lillie, Koharu and Aria.
I guess Tomiyasu can introduce a new Serena who is playful, sassy, expressive and bold about her feeling toward Ash which often treated as joke and has an "Ara Ara" personality like Masters Serena, It would be cool if Serena regained her long hair that she ties on a downward twintails like pic related and has a youthful face like her game counterpart.
However it seem the kiss has screwed Serena so bad that the anime had to hide her return and keep her away from Ash. It would be cool if Serena act sassy toward Wallace for stalling Ash.
