Pokemon has been a part of my life for 17 years now. Am I just too old at this point to play it? I believe the games have dropped more and more in quality ever since it went 3D(The GC and N64 spin-offs are fine)
But maybe Im just too old for it...I do have clear reasons as to why I believe Sword and Shield are some of the worst games in the franchise. The pop-ins when things get closer, the stiff overworld animations, Pokemon just resizing to big when they spawn instead of making them jump out of the grass for it to make more sense, almost nothing to do after beating Leon, the Pokemon dont have a single ounce of personality in their animations(atleast for 90% of them), The game is far too easy mostly due to the EXP share, the online system has become even shittier, etc
I know some of these issues have always been a problem but I was able to advert my eyes from it cause it was limited by the DS...now its on the most powerful Nintendo console to date, yet they didnt fix those issues...they made them worse
But maybe Im just being too harsh on the games for being in my 20s by now.
If I look at how well the new games are doing, it basically just tells me "Gamefreak knows they can do less and less for money."
I just want a Pokemon game to have soul again, oneshotting everything isnt fun. There's no thinking at all anymore. When I go back to play gen 1-5 now, I still struggle from time to time, but its more fun that way. I often see Rom Hacks that do a so much better job than Game Freak does by now. I get that they are on a timer due to SHITTONS of merchandise and a shitty anime but goddamn does it feel like things have become hopeless. I dont know bros....whats your stance on this?
(Also some of the early beta designs are fucking based)
