That's one of my rules when it comes to building teams when new games come out. Always use Pokemon from that generation only and no repeats on any team or any repeat of types. Cross gen evos only apply if I need a slot to fill, though Gen 4's dex was half cross gen evos so meh. Even though Gen 1 had 151 pokemon, I only liked enough to make a single somewhat remotely usable team. (Still shit though) Now Gens 3 and 5... I managed to make at least 2 to 3 teams.
Gen 1: Venusaur, Raichu, Persian, Flareon, Articuno, Dragonair
Gen 2: Meganium, Furret, Ampharos, Xatu, Houndoom, Slowking
Gen 3 v1: Blaziken, Swellow, Manectric, Flygon, Milotic, Metagross
Gen 3 v2: Sceptile, Torkoal, Walrein, Medicham, Seviper, Absol
Gen 4: Empoleon, Infernape, Pachirisu, Leafeon, Froslass, Honchkrow
Gen 5 v1: Samurott, Liepard, Sigilyph, Sawsbuck, Mienshao, Reshiram
Gen 5 v2: Simisage, Cinncino, Swanna, Galvantula, Chandelure, Haxorus
Gen 6: Delphox, Greninja, Aurorus, Helioisk, Noivern, Xerneas.
There were so many more Pokemon I wanted to use in gens 3 and 5.
