Another staple episode type seems to be "it's this Pokemon species' mating season, now we have to help them get a mate." Generally they're okay, if only because it leads to Ash being marginalized outside of him saying "romance? What is that, some kind of Pokemon?" or something stupid like that. Boggles my mind that people didn't see the MPM ending coming. I'm pretty sure Ash has done this at least once with every female companion nearby.
This one involved a Cottonee, and that's a good thing because I've had a Whimsicott hard carry my team a few times in BW playthroughs. It's also interesting because it involves someone other than Brock for the first time. Cilan's every bit a romantic as Brock, without the horny. Iris is every bit a romantic as May, but also eats while talking about love (also like May), which irritates Cilan. It's at least a different dynamic, and I like that Iris and Cilan have contrasting personalities other than science vs. nature. Cilan even combined his computer readings with Iris' ability to measure wind with her finger to determine where the wind that would sweep all the Cottonee to their fuck palaces would head. Finally, I get a sense of actual chemistry between the BW companions. Ash was there too, I guess.
