Not to mention we have loads more info about Pokemon than he does. Knowledge of evolutions, typing matchups, and whatever else. And whos to say we can't become someone special? Surely one of the professors would have some interest in our knowledge and you could try and get them to give you a Pokemon for info or just ask for help from literally anyone else.
I'd probably start off by trying to get a cute vulpix and have it as my partner. Maybe set off on an adventure and try my best to become good at Pokemon battling and even if that doesn't pan out and it does turn out I'm bad at it, it's just a wonderful journey across a different land with my favorite Pokemon. Then from there either continue battling and try me hand at the Pokemon league or try and become a professors assistant.
There is absolutely no reason we couldn't become a Pokemon master, sure not right away but its definitely possible.
