Here's the thing, not all reasons and excuses have to be good ones (and also "good" reasons don't necessarily make a good villain). Often people do bad things for not-so-good reasons. What matters is being compelling. I get what anon is saying about female characters, there's a tendency for their actions to always be excused or justified in a way that just leaves us to cheer or feel sympathy or pity them. There's no villain anymore, it's a waifu or power fantasy. Think how Harley Quinn is being written nowadays.
Lusamine was a compelling villain to stand with the others in the series but is not even part of the literal League of Villains in USUM.
