Yes, they are in too, pretty sure that was thanks to Stars and his XG hack. I actually left out a lot of things, I'll just copy/paste the "Main Changes" doc.

Main changes
• Physical / Special split
• Fairy type
• 65 moves from later gens
• Increased trainer difficulty
• Changed shadow encounters
• Trade and stone evolutions at level 40
• Starters can now be female
• Stat, type and ability changes for many Pokémon
• TM’s now infinite use
• 8 new TM’s
• Spread damage multiplier increased from 0.5x to 0.75x (Like later gens)
• Shadow Pokémon natures instantly viewable
• Colosseum challenges made into pseudo gyms

How is Pokemon XG? I just installed it last night but I don't know how good it is. I really hate it when hacks fall flat and add things that don't feel right (Changed types, forced comp sets, level curves that goes all the way to 100, etc.,). It looked like there wasn't anything like that but I want to double-check to make sure it isn't terrible or oppressively difficult. It really seems too good to be true, especially for a hack of XD.

trainer design is excellent. tons of fun doubles strategies on display, and since you can catch their pokémon you can use the same strategy right after
genuine challenge without being bullshit forced grinding or tedious
some fun additions for people who've already played it like shadow TMs, alolan ninetails

Nice. I love it too, SMT is probably my favorite JRPG series. Their enemy design is some of the most creative and fun to figure out I've seen in any game.

You definitely can make a hard boss without six perfect IV/EV Pokémon, but it's tricky to pull off and requires either really clever moveset design or really good AI. I just don't know if we can expect expertly designed teams from the main series anymore. At least if they had six Pokémon it would stop players from winning by just having more mons than the leader.
I played a Pokémon XD hack recently and the hard trainers were extremely well-made. They didn't give them six Pokémon until near the end of the game, but they had good team synergy and there was often a trick to each one. I think the double battle format helps with that, but I'd still love to see a mainline game where the leaders had well-made teams.

The best balanced fan game I've ever played is NeXt Gen, a hack of Gale of Darkness. It's also all doubles so you might get some inspiration.
Just make the enemy trainer teams as if you'd actually use them and you should be fine.

Recently I went through a rebalance of Ultra Sun called Supernova Sun. Similar idea, but you can catch every non- legendary in the wild somewhere, and the game is balanced so you and the champion have level 100s holding good items. The difficulty went up and down but it was really fun overall, and the post game is pretty much perfect.
If you go on Pokemoner.com there's a massive list of prepatched roms and fan games covering pretty much the whole series

Anything else you're writing machine code and you might as well make your own engine, or use Pokémon Essentials like a sane person.
That said, some crazy bastards made a Gale of Darkness hack and it's some of the most fun I've ever had playing Pokémon.

The patched ISO does not run after the "press any button to continue" screen. The fps drops to 0 and nothing happens. Other games work fine on dolphin but for whatever reason this one wont work. I checked and I patched the correct ISO so I'm wondering if it is a settings issue? This is my first time playing a mod on Dolphin.

You can do that in SMT too? And Reborn. It's just stupid to do so if they're weak to an upcoming boss, so you temporarily bench them until the next area. Effectively you run a party of about a dozen pokémon and switch between them depending on the area. They even force you into this with level soft caps so you can't grind past difficulty.
Theoretically Pokémon games fuck you over for creating bad type match-ups too. It's just so rare to see an intentionally difficult opponent in a pokémon game that most people won't notice. The few exceptions are some of the leaders in gen 4 and the admins in Colosseum and Gale of Darkness, the rare attempts at giving the AI good teams with synergy.

Speaking of, I'm playing Pokémon XG right now and it kicks ass. It's mostly a rebalance mod, you and the enemy trainers get different mons, and they implemented mechanics from the later games like phys/spec split and fairy type. Holy fuck is it fun though. There's so much interesting shit you can do in doubles, and this game shows off all of them. It's not insanely hard, even bosses might not have 6 pokémon, but you are forced to learn their strategies and plan around them. The shadow pokémon are great too, there's a ton of new shadow moves, and when you purify you usually end up with a viable movelist. It's just excellently designed all around.

Finally bought myself a good gaming laptop, first thing I'm doing is playing this improved Pokemon XD hack called XG.

The split is in, fairy types are in, and there's way more shadow and wild pokemon. Trainers are harder but you get more pokemon so it evens out. Not gonna lie, I'm a little hype since I love the Gamecube games.
