Serena was obviously moved by reconnecting with Ash, hence her lost in thought as he sails away, a metaphor for how both of them will "keep moving" towards their dreams even if it leads them to different paths. As long as they keep moving forward they will each grow and better themselves, and even more important they will see each other again, as that is the eventual nature of everyone in this world. it is a beautiful thing for Serena to see how much Ash has progressed, as beautiful as the setting sun. And just as the sun will rise and set again, so will her meetings with Ash. Seeing someone else so insistent on doing their best only further inspires others, as she wants to be the best she can be too. If this ep was truly kino we could even say the green is a callback to Lycanroc's dusk form, where the green flash of a sunset is something so rare as to inspire a new evolution. I'm sure it wasn't the intention, but we can easily infer that Ash still has that effect on Serena nonetheless, her inspiration to grow into her own unique person. She is looking out to him as he leaves knowing that he will always be there, across the horizon. Always shining bright even when out of sight. Always striving to be the best pokemon master. Always encouraging her even in the dark of night.
