I was reading up on some moves one day and stumbled across "power split". Never used it before, never seen it before. And another one, "guard split". What pokemon get these moves? I found out that Shuckle gets both of these moves... so Shuckle can share its defence with a partner... hmmm... I should choose a partner with high HP to fully exploit this. But how do I implement the guard split? Shuckle is always going last. I can't protect the first mon... I found another mon that gets guard split - Accelgor. As a bonus, it has high HP, it's one of the fastest mons in the game, and it's a mono-bug type (for me, that's a good defensive typing). The plan was to partner him with a full def/full SpD Shuckle, Accelgor guard splits with Shuckle, then Shuckle power splits with the opponent. The Accelgor was max hp/max speed, which looking back on now, I could have gone without the max speed and put more into SpA. I was just terrified of that choice scarf Aerodactyl. The plan kind of worked. Accelgor just sat there forever, eating its leftovers, blasting Struggle Bugs to lower the opponent's SpA all the way, and teaching me how valuable the move encore is in doubles. It worked, but games would last 15 minutes, and Accelgor would do no damage, just sit there. Even though this proved my most fruitful attempt, I had to drop the strategy. Accelgor wasn't invicible, I had to run protect over something better like Toxic, and Shuckle couldn't really offer anything. Scizor and Volcarona were still coming out the back, but were often overwhelmed without true support.
