The main reason for Leaf's situation is that Red is too iconic, so he always gets the spotlight. He's the trainer you fight in HGSS, he's the trainer in the PWT in BW2 and he's the trainer in the Battle tree in gen 7.
Lucas is nowhere near enough popular for him to ever get this kind of treatment, so Dawn isn't at risk of being ignored like that. If anything, he's the one who should be worried, since Dawn is more popular than he is.
