The entire point of them was to be some crazy new gimmick that got people talking and eager to buy the Gen 6 games just to see it in action. Once people got used to them they were no longer fit for purpose, which is why they were dropped in Gen 7 in favour of Z-Moves, which in turn will be scrapped in Gen 8 in favour of something else.
This is how things work now; the spectacle comes first, everything else is an afterthought.
