Dunno about others but Palworld "died" because pic related. In short:
>everything that Palworld does better than Pokemon is usually experienced on the very first playthrough
>the grindy gameplay loop makes replaying it a bigger hassle
>the combat is mostly a one-dimensional dodge&counterattack loop with little depth
>the human bosses are little more than level gates in practice, and unfun ones at that
Basically imagine if gym leaders and E4 in Pokemon were both harder and less fun to beat than completing the pokedex. Makes sense why people nope'd the fuck out after exploring the world and capturing and trying out all the pals they could get a hold of. There also isn't and most likely never will be an equivalent of Pokemon's multiplayer to draw and keep comp crowd.
That said, 2% of the supposed 25mil buyers - so about 500k - returning for the April update that was literally just 1 (one) mon is a relatively good sign for a medium-sized franchise. If the devs manage fix the game's flaws or at least double down on its strengths, they might be able to push out a few DLCs and later sequels. But it never did and never will have any chance of replacing Pokemon. More of yet another sideline like Digimon, MonHun or Yokai Watch.
