The "rebalanced difficulty" is just a series of changes that makes everything take longer. Every regular trainer encounter spams non-volatile status moves which means you have to spend money to stock up on antidotes/awakenings etc., or run back to a pokemon center inbetween every single fight which destroys the pace. However, money is extremely hard to come by. Regular trainer battles give you fuck all, amulet coin and luck incense have TIME LIMITS i.e. you activate them and they only work for a couple of hours before they just disappear (same with lucky egg), and every way you knew of grinding money from the originals is gone. You can't rematch the E4 over and over in any region for example. If you decide to use your money on curative items or repels to expedite the process of running back to a pokemon center inbetween ever single encounter, then you won't be able to participate in the game's marketplace. Want to buy TMs from other players so you can deck out your pokemon with interesting moves which you wouldn't be able to do in the normal versions of the original games? Nope, not possible because you spent all your money on parlyz heals just to restore the game to a sensible pace. So either you play the game at a pace slower than fucking Colosseum or DP, or you play the game at a bearable pace and can't participate in any of the interesting MMO features - just play the originals at that point.
Now say you do slog through the main adventure and reach a postgame. Well guess what there's fuck all to do because money is impossible to come by. If you want to build a decent team to battle your friends or randoms, you will have to sit there grinding for money in the slowest ways possible to buy items or TMs going for obscene prices on the market and next week the devs will patch that grinding method out of the game (yes this really happened to me). Also breeding is fucked. Don't even get me started on that
