>>46117926I suspect that Lugia's name is actually related to several puns.
We know they were playing with homophones because of "umi", meaning 海 "sea", 膿 "pus" or "生み" birth (compare 爆誕 "explosive birth/bombast/ballyhoo" in the title of the movie, translated as "Revelation" for some reason)
暖流 and 榴弾 (ryuudan) are homophones. The first means "warm current". The second means "pomegranate shot/bullet" or "high explosive" (shuryuudan is "Hand grenade", "Grenade" comes from Old French "pomme grenate" meaning pomegranate.)
硫 is "ryuu" meaning "sulfur" (an element found in gunpowder), 竜 is "ryuu" meaning dragon/dinosaur/hero, 流 is "ryuu" meaning current/flow/stream/period of an artist's life or an artist's special technique/style, 隆 is "ryuu" meaning noble/prosperous
I don't know how nobody noticed this yet
