Here's mine. You take a ferry from 4 to 5. The plot macguffin dungeons are marked by an A. The climax setting is marked by a B. C indicates Victory Road, (part of) which you must pass through to get to town 7/gym 3.

The northernmost point must be passed through to go from 7 to 8, and the easternmost point must be passed through as the intersection between the routes joining 5/6/7 (you get there at about the second-third Gym equivalent). Eventually you can use it to get to 16. The name of this tunnel? Victory Road.

I assume region maps are allowed. Here's the one from my game that will never be finished ever. I've annotated it with numbers to show the general progression through the game (4 - 5 is by ferry, 16 is accessed via C). Hidden shrines to the legendary Pokémon of the game are indicated by (A).

Key moments include visiting the research site of a devastating meteor impact thousands of years ago (B) and using the Dig HM (!) at the intersection of 5, 6 and 7 to continue only to see the words "Victory Road - East Entrance" pop up as the location marker (C). Of course, you can't follow it all the way through at first.
