What are your thoughts on part of the screen being just HUD/information UI of sorts?

Think a (thin) box (def. not the size of a second screen, that's distracting in my opinion) below the map displaying time, status of your Pokémon, maybe clock, maybe key item shortcuts (binded to a particular key). If you press the menu key, the menu appears down there. During battle it becomes the typical battle buttons.

Questions:
>What size is acceptable? What size is too much?
>What's the most important information to display idly? (while you're just walking around a map)
>Should it have mouse compatibility, even if its compatible with just keyboard controls?
>What are some other smart uses it could have in other screens? For example, in the summary screen it could be used as buttons to switch between the different screens (memo, moves, ribbons etc) and during the bag it could be used to switch pockets.

I have the skills to code all this, just don't know if it's worth it. Dual screen is a meme to me because I don't think playing with mouse+keyboard is any good on a Pokémon game, but maybe dedicating a small part of the screen isn't? Really looking forward to your input.

Instead of gyms, I'm doing trials based on the 12 Labours of Herakles.
Each trial is led by a trial captain based on an Olympian. The trials are similar to Alola's Island Challenge.
I want to include a Sacred Pokemon similar to Totem Pokemon that are faced at some point in the trial.
>Minotaur in the Labyrinth
>Giant Automaton island rampage
>Medusa in the cave
My question is how to explain thr power boost and size enlargement of the Sacred Pokemon without the Ultra Dimension boost that made Totem Pokemon so mighty?

I was thinking of having the Sacred Pokemon be ancient pokemon that belonged to the Twelve, the ancient rulers of the region based on the Olympians.

You know the Greek Classical Elements:Fire, Water, Earth, Air, and the Aether, the element of the gods.
What if I used the fifth element as a way to explain Sacred Pokemon and the pokemon made by Team Titan?
Also, I'm the Item Crafting dude from last thread. Hephaestus, the greek god pf crafting and smithing, would make Battle Equipment using the Aether.

Hell, I could do a whole E.T. that creates Quintessence Pokemon using the fifth element. The Quintessence Pokemon are pokemon made perfect, removed weaknesses, high stats, etc.

You can try somewhere in between but you need to be careful. Fakemon might clash with real mons too much stylewise if you're not good enough. I guess you could have region forms then but idk if you wanted those.

Is anybody here good at fixing UVs for the Gen VI/VII mon textures? A ring of edges on Incineroar's pinkies broke after I symmetrised the main body mesh in Blender (turns out that turning on the X-mirror while editing vertices doesn't work half the time with this godforsaken thing) and then the UV broke when I was deleting and readding the affected vertices, and now they appear to be partially displaying the part of the main texture dedicated to the claws and little bits of the torso.

As far as informations to display goes, I'd add the time, the pokémons in the palyer's party with health bar and probably selected items.

Maybe add a minimap too.

But I was wondering if there is a way to add more pokemon to a game? Preferably either in gen IV or V.
I want to add every shiny version of a pokemon to a game, to sort of double the amount of catchable pokemon, and give them typings based on their colors.

Why would I want to prepare in advance for an in-game fight only to be surprised by Pokémon faints because I played it well and got a one shot? I'd rather have something like Filter instead, which at least doesn't punish you and is just extra defenses overall.

I know the final trial is scaling Mt.Olympus(PokemonLeagueHq) as Team Titan is besieging it with the Legendary Typhon.

The elite four also don't specialize in a particular type in this game.
Instead, they all focus on a type of weather condition.

The one in the thumbnail is Sandra who specializes in battling under the Sandstorm condition.

I assume region maps are allowed. Here's the one from my game that will never be finished ever. I've annotated it with numbers to show the general progression through the game (4 - 5 is by ferry, 16 is accessed via C). Hidden shrines to the legendary Pokémon of the game are indicated by (A).

Key moments include visiting the research site of a devastating meteor impact thousands of years ago (B) and using the Dig HM (!) at the intersection of 5, 6 and 7 to continue only to see the words "Victory Road - East Entrance" pop up as the location marker (C). Of course, you can't follow it all the way through at first.

I purchased an Action Replay Power Savers for my Pokemon X and it won't fucking work. All it shows is pic related. It stays on this screen forever and eternity when Pokemon X is plugged in to my computer.

I'm hoping to have it releasable by April, but that's what I said about March too. Most likely I'll get the map scripts done by late April or May and release it as-is, then finish the held items and abilities in a 3.1 update.

Luvdisc is JUST an unsalvageable disappointment. WHY didn't it evolve into Alomamola is beyond me.
Even with a Water/Fairy Heroic Form, it'd still suck.

This line is probably one of the most cliche concepts fakemon:

Kittwin gets Synchronize
Evolving Kittwin whilst the other is in the party creates Geminese, the Gemini Pokemon.

They did a callout mid-last year to which I and many others applied, and from the questions I asked it seemed like they didn't have a solid story structure beyond their concept. Furthermore it seemed like they selected someone once submissions closed but they reopened submissions a few months later so I assume it didn't work out.

Maybe an antagonist that's more like the protagonist of tragic plays. They're sympathetic, they have noble goals, but also some character flaw that ruins them. For a villain team leader, that could work out as them honestly trying to improve the world by one value (freedom, beauty, land) at the expense of another (companionship, life, ocean), and then an irrational flaw in their personality makes them take the tradeoff way too far.

For Gen 3 you type things into little boxes in XSE or A-Trainer or some other specific tool. For Gen 2 you type things into data/base_stats.asm or maps/NewBarkTown.asm or some other specific file. One of the few things you always need a tool for (unless you like hex editing) is mapping, and Crowdmap exists for that.

I studied software engineering at university and the structure of "scenes" in RMXP baffles me to this day. I managed to make a custom starter selection screen and trainer card/badge case screen but there's a lot of copy-pasting without really understanding the purpose of some statements. It's mostly to do with the creation of the scene itself, once I'm in there I can add and manipulate elements fairly well.

More than that though I wish I could just sit down and make my game as a whole. I spend hours thinking up and documenting shit but actually realising it is hell

Are you using the disassembly? It's the easiest way to hack Gen 2 by far. Link is in the OP. Editing stuff like tiles and sprites becomes incredibly easy with the disassembly.

I had a dream that I was making a fangame last night. Strangely, this is something I had never considered in my whole life and yet still had a dream about.

However I have absolutely zero knowledge of how this is even done. I have no knowledge of coding, drawing, spriting, music or pretty much anything that would be required to make something like this. I don't even have ideas for a region or storyline or anything else because, as I mentioned, I had never ever thought of doing something like this.

However, there's still a nagging feeling that this dream meant something and I should give it a try.

What do you think bros? How hard would it be for someone to start from the absolute zero for this? Would it be worth it? Or should I just not even try? How were things for you? How did you start and why? Maybe hearing other people's stories will help me decide.

Any mythical twist is going to feel out of place in a Pokemon story. The protagonist is supposed to be some average kid who goes on to become the best, it lets the player project themselves onto the character.
Being the son of a God makes it seem like the character has an unfair advantage over everyone else instead of simply relying on trust and skill. Like their destiny is already determined and the player is just along for the ride.

If this "Trial King" is just an ordinary guy and not actually a God like Zeus, it would make for a really cool reveal. A lot like the Silver - Giovanni link.

Yeah, I probably should have mentioned that. Trial King Deus is the most powerful trainer in the region and oversees the trials, but he's just a guy though.
The original 12 Olympians are referenced as the ancient and powerful ruling family of the region. The twelve current trial captains and King are said to be descended from them.Though just like the Titanomachy, Team Titan justifies their assault on the trials as their birthright

Honestly, if it's based on the Labours, that couldn't really be much more perfect. How about:

But Team Titan attacks the mountain and all the trial captains and an all out battle takes place. Think the God of War 3 opening battle.

One of the intended gimmicks will be that you will never be able to just leave a town (see: aforementioned context); you'll always have to find a go-around. For this town, to keep it simple as the starter town, you will obtain some sort of cutting item (replace HM) and leave the town via cave, with the other end of the cave opening up on Route 1.

For the Heroi Region, I plan to have a phenomenon based on quintessence/fifth element/aether that permeates the region, taking form in glowing, white crystals.
It's explained that this energy exists within all things. It powers all things.
I do know that these crystals are mined in bulk by Dis(Hades) company. I also want the aether crystals to weave into the schemes of Team Titan.
I still don't know how to apply it to the plot though. Can't make it like Mega Evolution or Z Moves. O-Power is sort of what I originally intended for it to be. I don't know. Can someone help me?

Feels really old-school, like an '80s RPG battle theme. One thing I feel about it that isn't very "Pokémon" is the section from 0:02 to 0:13. I think that part would sound better if you gave it a fast intensity drop and didn't cut the note off so it would fade to silence naturally. $X2 is a pretty good intensity to use regarding volume fade (the X is your starting pitch of course). I also think that one softer pulse channel could be made a little bit louder in general. I also think the area from 0:58 to 1:04 is a bit too underwhelming even for something with an old-school tone. Overall it's different enough from normal Pokémon flair that I don't want to just criticize parts for "it doesn't sound like Pokémon," because it doesn't really have to be if that's not what you're going for. I wish I could be more detailed in my criticism but I'm just not too trained in music.

Also needs more explorability, there needs to be a secret path down to the cool bay area. Could be one way up or down. That map is way too open for Gen 2. In Gen 2 you can only see 10x9 tiles at a time. This map also isn't tiled correctly at all for Gen 2, I'm pretty sure this would expand the maximum tileset due to all the weird alignments. Also why are there eight berry trees on this map? I'm pretty sure there's a limit to how many sprites you can have on the map at once, and berry trees and item balls take up that space as well as NPCs. You'd have to split the map up into different chunks to have that many NPCs, which I don't think is possible due to how open the map is as previously stated.

That explains a few audio quirks then. I think this is good to go for when you eventually port it to GSC, and any further tweaking can be after that. I'm here to help if you have problems or questions about doing music in Gen 2 once you move to recreating the songs with ASM.

Finished my remake of this route with Essentials. I went ultra autistic this time around by making each grass tile match the original, save for a few that weren't in the essentials default tiles. I'm never going that autistic again.
