Did I miss anything? Some of the mons seem cool, but I have no idea what the story was like.
I tried playing on an emulator a while back, but the animated sprites looked really shit and low rez do I stopped playing pretty quick. Should I give it another shot?

Gamefreak's sole directive is to make Nintendo money, full-stop. They have typically done this with bumper software sales on mature systems. They have proven in 2001, 2005, and 2012 that they WILL disregard the long-term health of a new console in order to drive short-term software sales to a larger install-base. If they were to release another game on the gen 7 engine for 3DS in 2017/2018, it would only be in line with their past behavior, and IMO they'd be stupid NOT to considering they already have an engine to use and 60 million+ potential customers.

Are the newer games pretty much the same?

Wake up, leave home, catch pokemon, fight bad guys, gyms, go to final champion battles

Is the plot layout the same is what I'm asking, and would it be worth for me to buy a 3ds for the newer games? I like the games, not the show or cards though.
How are the new games different?

I'll start.
Spring/Autumn.

This version places a heavy emphasis on the season system as the region is Ohio with crazy seasons, with certain mons and events coming in certain seasons In addition, It is released in Autumn, with the Spring version having 6 months added to the clock to make their game Spring in Autumn, Summer in Winter etc. Initially, Spring version gets Spring mons and summer mons the first 6 months, while Autumn version gets Autumn then winter mons.
