>>47703509>Pokemon was at it's best when the story was incredibly minimal and the actual goal of the game was to explore the world and see all the monsters in it.Yeah, when you were a kid, but the people who make and play fangames have long since passed the point where simply catching mons, grinding until Gym level, repeat x8 is still fun for them. I've played Spork, Gaia, Unbound, etc and dropped them all around the halfway point because I've done the catching new mons and buzzing through the Gyms thing quite likely hundreds of times before, it's dull, I need more to entice me and envigorate the old formula myself, and they just didn't do much more than the OG games did in terms of that besides some QOL improvements and more mons.
Reborn on the other hand is a helluva experience half because of just how shitty it is and half because of all the ways it tries to genuinely improve and change the experience. The story is a fucking mess, most of the characters are absolutely insufferable, the difficulty rises unfairly and then fucking shatters through the peak near the end, but I still had some of the most fun and engagement I've had playing a Pokemon game in years simply because it tries to do something more than just a bog-standard Pokemon adventure.
