Annoying tripfags were making lots of generals constantly instead of staying in just one so antipokéfags entered to shitpost and hate on all of them and nobody was happy, it was just a mix of "i'm super hyped" posts with "im going to ruin your thread" posts and m00t was asked from both sides to just create a pokémon board already. He hesitated for months until it was finally done.
Much later he added /vg/ (and /vr/) for the same issue other games, especially Katawa Shoujo. If HGSS wouldnt have generated so much hype before that, /vp/ would have never been created and we would be having generals on /vg/ like everyone else.
