>>54079620I think it was more about what JN settled out to do but what was done with it even before some big thing happened in 2020 and put a big dent on things. I liked Koharu and Goh, the sakuragi lab and the characters were decent at best but the redflags to me was the treatment of Gen 8 and the OS/Kanto pandering. Episode 1 being the Pikachu Origin episode tipped me a bit off about it being the last series run with Ash and Pikachu, 3rd episode being a rehash of that one OS episode, it taking in Kanto for the most Part either for nostalgia/fan-service and even then the problems of the games translating into the show such as gen 1 being the one getting most forms for the Dynamaxxing or the most glaring one that they didn't do anything with Ash until episode 12/13? and even then the PWC didn't felt fully used. I won't complain as much because of Dawn eating big time with Gen 4 Remake giving them a good excuse to use her more, but considering how little was done with her after BW is a bit disappointing, especially how she mysteriously disappeared after the M8. Not to mention the progression with Koharu, few appearances of the old companions being more of an obligation than a genuine attempt to return them for one episode, Cilan's last episode taking his detective gig too far for instance.
MPM in particular was just surprising in the sense of too little, too late. Two episodes are good tops, the rest plus the rotation of reserves felt like they should've been in JN, 11 episodes were pushing for a finale. The usual gripe at it. JN and MPM are arguably the peak of wasted fan-service potential as a series.
