I mean I'm guessing they did pair her with May for a reason, May getting left out by herself would look weird but if both she a serena are out of the picture it does not look as bad.(pic related)
The same could be said for greninja he also got a sunset goodbye, and bringing him back would bring up AG again, there is no reason to dig up dead problems.

I think we will see(not in any order) Misty, brock(duh), iris, lemons, maybe cilen, alola gang, maybe Cynthia, and definitely Dawn but im not sure about Goh and Chloe. Oh and maybe even Garry for a plot.
