It's okay for signs and large text, really cool if you use the app (pic related) for real time stuff though. I quickly gave up on that feature and have been using a Japanese keyboard to retype everything and translate that, thus why kanji are such an issue. Then I use my very limited knowledge of the language, bulbapedia to look up pokemon/move/character/place names since those are rarely translations and often completely renamed overseas, and context clues to piece together a more coherent translation.
