>>42202282I guess the main problem is that the battle series aren't heavy sellers by pokemon standards, and with the 3D gimmick gone it's a harder sell even if there's a world of difference in the details (and maybe even a whole different art style).
Also a new game like PBR would make the main games' flaws all the more evident. Which would be fine if the differences were born from a good design philosophy (stuff like a simpler layout, portability or fast-paced battles), but that is not the case as much of those actually come from rushed development, neglect and obsolete design.
Right now a battle simulator would just add fuel to the fire. It would do them more harm than good. So until the mainline games get their shit together, I wouldn't count on a PBR successor being even a remote possibility.
