>>52714906I haven't really read it but know a bit through osmosis and plan to check it out soon. I don't have the greatest impression of some aspects even as I admire what it's going for (long continuing story with a bunch of different protags that presents the universe in a unique way). IDK how I'll feel about it but here's some of my basic bitch complaints because that's the thread theme:
Some of the stuff I know about the portrayal of the game characters in it feels like the author just derives their personalities/positions in life or whatever by like making a wall of random jobs/character traits and throwing darts at it. I don't actually mean the Gen 1 thing with like half the leaders being Rockets, because as lame as it is that they're also all the cooler ones, at least the ones chosen for that do come off as jerks in-game.
I mean shit like Misty being a rich ojou-sama who just LIKES to dress like an average girl-next-door, or the tomboyish-looking White protagonist ACTUALLY being super girly and hating battling etc. Like yeah okay people don't always act exactly how they look, but when the base design is some of the only characterization some of these dudes get it feels weird to go in a random direction just because you can. Even as I get that some of this likely happened because he'd already used some of the more "obvious" personalities on other characters before and was going for variety.
Also everyone's names being based on the games kinda sucks. Like yeah Red/Blue/Green is pretty okay, but like Diamond/Pearl/Platinum? Shieldmilia? Come oooonnnnnn.
Also the old art looked better. Although even that also looked kinda weird.
Positive thoughts: pic related seems cool.
I really wish the Electric Tale dude could've had his manga last longer or had the chance to do his own original Pokemon story, rather than having to kinda-sorta loosely adapt the anime in episodic stories. The humor/art/etc of that is way more in line with my tastes
