While we're at it, pokemon moving around is also dumb. They should stand still. And take turns.
Modifying a weak move to give it broader application and more longevity is perfectly valid in a story. There is merit to fundamental mastery rather than immediately jumping onto the newest trick you learned.
Although, I do agree with some of your sentiment. She really should get some new moves, so she could have more moves to experiment with and show off practically using unorthodox methods.
In the same vein that Contest trainers experiment with moves, but instead of doing that to make it pretty, it's done purely for the sake of murder.
