For me, I couldn't justify buying consoles for the sole purpose of playing just Pokemon. This was especially the case around BW. Although, I played XY, went REALLY into it, to the point of spending weeks trying hatch for a shiny. I simply just couldn't on Sun and Moon. Saw SWSH, and I'm still wrestling with whether it's a good idea to invest my time, money, and energy, on it. Not sure about everyone else, but I got like, a family now. I don't think it has to do being "too old" for Pokemon, because the company is rebranding itself to cater to the "young at heart," a tag I literally saw at a Uniqlo store. I really think it's what you're doing with it, because not everyone is cooming to their own written fanfic of eeveelutions. But you'll get that sort, every once in a while. Hey. You do you. So yeah, age and maturity imo has nothing to do with Pokemon dying out. If that's the case, then we would say the same for every other video game brand and company out there. Like, ML is only for kids, but I see even security guards play that shit.
And the TCG died because of Yugioh and Beyblade. But hey, it's now a nostalgia collector's item on the same page with baseball cards, I think. I still have absolutely no idea how to play the TCG, and I'm like 30 now.
If anything, I play ROMs from time to time now. And would likely pass it on to my kids when they're a wee bit older.
