Go look up a card's name on bulbapedia and if the box is grey out then it's legal, either due to just being new enough or because it got a reprint. If it's white then it's out of rotation.

Yeh, that's the point that was trying to be made.

The charizard needs to be both 1st Edition AND Shadowless, or else it may be an Unlimited Base Set one or A first edition from a differnt set.

As far as the actual tcg goes, the art is nice, the rules are simple, and since XY it looks like they've been trying to balance the game out. YGO has cards covered in rules and I don't particularly like the art. I was into MTG for a while especially during Scars of Mirrodin, but slowly lost interest. Online TCGs are just out of the question since TCGs are half collection and half social for me, and there are better online games.

I've never been interested in MtG, and Yugioh can go fuck itself with taking commons in the Japanese set and making them Ultra Rares in the US set, I'm still pissed they did that with fucking Glow Up Bulb. I would buy the games if they came out in the US though.

And online TCGs don't have much appeal to me because I like collecting just as much as I do playing the game.

Attended the LGS for a bit of practice today. Most people are there getting a last couple matches in before they head off for nationals tomorrow.

You see a LOT of anti-meta tech nowadays - Pyroar, Druddigon, Raichu etc. Set fire to half of it using a E-tier deck because they don't build the deck planning for that one guy running Chandelure/Reshiram 'six prize game'.

Traded a Plasma Kyurem for the FA Plasma Giratina that I'd been looking for for ages - I was also going to trade a promo FA Landorus for a playset of Miltanks but the woman decided against it. Although it was probably because I got greedy and wanted a Greninja as well. Pic related, it was me.

Honestly, Miltank is a lot more appealing in decks that already have Stage 2s because it's yet another bulky basic rather than being a Stage 1 with comparatively less bulk.

Only difference is that compared to most other bulky basics your opponent only gets one prize card for taking it out.

Absol is a non-EX attacker that can hit for 120 which can reach 170 with Laser, Virbank and Muscle Band. I don't think I'd take it out, knocking out something like Thundurus without putting your Yveltals in harm's way is too good for me. Druddigon improves your Blastoise and Emboar matchups significantly, although it's not necessary with Garbodor. I just like it more than the alternatives (Bouffalant or Yveltal).

You're giving it way less credit than you should. Preventing your opponent from benching crucial Pokémon is part of Absol's usefulness. Plasma and Aromatisse almost always go for full bench regardless in order to get the effects of their bench sitters (Deoxys and Genesect in Plasma, Aromatisse, Virizion, Darkrai and possibly Genesect in Aromatisse). Also, most VirGen variants run Raichu nowadays and they try to fill their bench to KO your Yveltal. If you manage to KO a single EX against those decks with Absol, you're usually in a great position to win the game.

And in any case, I don't see many better options for Absol position tbh. I wouldn't drop another attacker for a trainer, 3 Yveltal and 1 Darkrai is already kind of low.

The Xerneas deck is ok. It gives you a solid base to build an Aromatisse deck.

And join tournaments when you can, even a single win will give you a booster pack. There are also theme deck tournaments if you don't want to play against fully competitive decks. When the tournament is over, you get the tournament tickets back, nothing is wasted.

Got the Unlimited 150 tournament this Saturday. Wondering if it's even worth bothering seeing as the only viable decks are Deluge and Gardevoir. (and to a lesser extent Psychic in general because D/P Dusknoir because it's just impossible to play around and pretty much carries most decks)

Seeing as I'm running something else, I'll beat the two or three pairings where they're using some 100-card pile and then lose to all of the Deluges and Psychics.

Mainly showing up for the sake of taking part, but at this point the format's starting to show signs of wearing out and many of the inherent flaws are becoming visible
>complete reliance on draw engines to the point of many matches degenerating into whoever can remove the opponent's draw engine first
>games taking absurdly long so that tournament settings are best of 1
>if you get a bad draw you can't just scoop and go for game 2 because there isn't a game two. you either sit it out and never stand a chance or just save the effort and wait for next round
>where there's no guarentee the same shit won't happen again
>inaccessible to most. if you don't have all 50 of the ideal Trainers you're at a massive disadvantage. this is 50 from Base Set to Flashfire, btw
>karenfaggotry is impossible. if your 'fun' deck isn't speed lockdown or doesn't have a way to improve on 1 energy a turn, it's not viable. as soon as Fossil Muk gets banned I'll have to scrap my fire deck.

I've done the latter with a few things before. Just a pair of headphones and some snacks while it was going around the first few times but it worked pretty well, but I'd be weary to try it now.

You still have plausible deniability by just being able to say you didn't know the coupons were fake if they don't work, but the former likely wouldn't work unless the cashiers are really ignorant.

Notice they're planning on releasing ANOTHER box set. Maybe if they spent less time releasing constant boxes and more time thinking of cards for the actual sets, we wouldn't be constantly getting filler cards so bad they're not even finished evolution lines?

A big reason why the English sets are bad is because TPCI keeps changing the Japanese releases to make them match their idea of set structure and booster size. The Japanese sets still have bad or mediocre cards, sure, but their release format means that you end up with far less of them and good rares are easier to get.

Rarity changes are the biggest problem, that Durant was an uncommon in Japan and has no business of being a rare (oddly the much better Miltank got to stay uncommon).

I'm sure stuff like Sacred Ash will stop you from decking out enough since it takes 8-10 instances of 300 damage to deck out depending on how fast you set up.. Super Rod's still legal though.

I am not, but this basically started back in the WotC days since in the old Japanese sets they had no such things as non-holo rares so WotC basically made non-holo rare versions of cards until Japanese sets come with non-holo rares as well (and then subsequently they took them out again)

There's also a few things to note as well

- They don't have reverse foils (anymore)
- Not all packs are guaranteed to have Rares
- Regular EXs are considered RR (Double Rares)
- Full Arts, Shinys, Gold Mega Pokemon are considered Super Rares and there might be none per box

This is why sets have such a fluctuating size since some of the English sets are basically combined with 2 Japanese sets. Even worse, things like Emerging Powers occur since it is basically leftovers from the Black Collection and White Collection + various structure decks and promos due to the huge time gap between Black and White Collection and Red Collection (Noble Victories in English) and TPCi have a fixed release date policy.

So I run this super ghetto Ho-Oh deck on the tcgo and have some success with it, mainly because of Scyther and his Steel Slash.

I've been really lucky recently and got 2 Pyroars, however. I have been thinking about replacing the Scythers with them, but have been having difficulty weighing the positives and negatives of each. Recently there have been a number of basic non-EXs that have given Scyther fits, like Yveltal, that Pyroar could deal with. But Scyther requires less input to start doing damage and doesn't discard energy. Scyther also hitting for 2x against fairy has also come in handy quite a bit.

I also need to replace terrakion with something, since nobody plays darkrai as an attacker anymore, but don't know where to go with that. I know the energy is a mess but I was testing the usefulness of Mew. Any advice would be appreciated.

Due to Muk he was never able to get Rain Dance online and therefore wasn't capable of launching many attacks - while of course Miltank and it's one energy for 80 damage went the distance.

After a slow start she threw Protection Cube Zekrom my way, but having taken one prize from KOing Miltank I was then able to use 'my trap card' which was Twins, and was able to counter-attack using a Delphox with six fires on it. Muk locked down everything in the same turn, and Delphox took the prize counts to 7-2 in my favour before she her battered board position pulled out a Flashfire Luxio to Electricounter for 240. I completely forgot that card existed, otherwise I'd have KO'd the Shinx after snaring it with Gust of Wind! I had Miltank back on the Bench and could revenge KO the Luxio, and when she Red Carded away my hand of seven which contained the materials to regenerate Delphox and retrieve Gust of Wind, I was red-carded into DCE, the beginning set Delphox and top-decked Cassius, which allowed me to pick up Miltank, stick the DCE on the now-Delphox with two fires on it and Fire Blast an Expert Belted Raichu for game.

This was vs the guy who made the format, who in no way shape or form was using the most gamebreaking card in the format - Dark Palm Dusknoir. Playing around it the best I can, I end up Sycamoring into a hand of five Items and an Eevee that I can't bench unless I want him to Dark Palm Claydol back in deck - at which point he uses Erika's Perfume to Bench it regardless and throws Claydol into my deck. Trevenant comes in and takes a couple prizes. I don't see another Energy throughout the rest of the match, which was three or four turns until I scooped from being too far behind.

First thing I notice about my opponent, he has a MLP playmat. Urgh, pride on the line here. Turns out the Plasma Freeze Eeveelutions have several ways to kill the XY Delphox, so I just use the Beginning Set one instead. One attempt to shut off all Abilities with Muk ends in failure after Plasma Espeon Shadowballs it away, but he has no draw engines on the field so I decide I simply won't need Muk anymore. Miltank takes some early prizes and then after Typhlosion-ex charges my Delphox up to seven fires, it proceeds to Fire Blast all of his Pokemon away as from what I saw he had nothing with over 120 HP. Towards the end he mistook it for a Pokemon-ex when it's merely a promotional holofoil, resulting in Plasma Vaporeon merely Gold Breaking for 60 and not 160. After Vaporeon gets Fire Blasted away the brony has four prizes left to my one and no way to last another turn.

Two other people went 3-1, with Dusknoir/Trevenant obtaining the 4-0, but because my only loss was to him and because I beat the Raichu/Ampharos who also went 3-1, it placed me -slightly- ahead in points (it's an odd system) and I landed second place.

Got two packs of Flashfire (which contained nothing good) and one of pic related. The person who came last using Mewtwo/Chandelure got a Unlimited-150 stamped XY Bibarel!

As there are no 'large EXes' in this format, four or five Fires is all it takes to one-shot pretty much everything. However, this is classed as Pokemon-ex in Unlimited 150 for balance, as are any BW/XY holos from a main set.

Not as flashy yet 120 damage usually gets the job done for times where XY Delphox is too high a risk to send active.

>Typhlosion-ex
The Poke-Power allows you to search your deck for up to five Fires and attach to one of your side, which usually goes on either Delphox before they wade in to KO as many things as possible. The attack is just for show - once the Power has been used this is considered a spent card and is usually picked up with Cassius or Mr. Fuji for re-use.

>Miltank
Without a shadow of a doubt, the best disposable attacker in the format. Seeing as pretty much everything has 160HP or less, this 2HKOs anything and with a Muscle Band one-shots most Stage 1s. Works great with Swoop! Teleporter to replace that spent Dunsparce/Spiritomb with a strong attacker at zero notice.

Back in my day, we didn't need Pokemon Tools to shut off all Abilities! A very strong card yet has to be used wisely - only really effective to seal a winning position, and even then some opponents have ways to deal with it - including and especially Plasma Espeon. Considered 'too good' by some and a 'necessary evil' by others - it's currently being suspected but will probably stay on the grounds of having a usage rate of one person only, which is, er, me.

Over at my LGS I was seeing a lot of anti-meta decks before Nationals but from what I was told from people who actually went to Nats, yes there was a lot of Yveltal and Co.

Un150 wasn't too bad on Saturday honestly. About 33% of the playing field was using some semblance of Deluge or Gardevoir, and really right now it's Dark Palm Dusknoir kicking the shit out of everything as its ability just applies game-breaking restrictions to your opponent with no downside to the user.

Un150's main problem is how it's moderated by a single person - which does not make for the most credible of bodies when it comes to banning certain cards, especially ones that don't obviously break the game like ones that can create infinite combos or the ones that can recur two Items a turn to spam Super Energy Removal and Goop Gas Attack.

Are minted cards really worth anything any more? I've never really paid attention to any sort of price guides since like the 90s.

You know, I took the garbodor out of mine and went back to the Sableyes. Too many niggers run the megaphones which instantly makes garbodor obsolete.
Raichu decks dont give me trouble at all. It's like some little kid's attempt to play with the big boys.
The only thing outside of my usual terrible card draws that manages to completely kick my ass are Thundurus-EX carrying plasma faggots.

Speaking of cards in other languages, I have a few Japanese cards, and I have to say the quality is generally way better than the English cards; their regular holos are glossy and have shiny borders and look like EX's themselves.

The regular EX's are more similar in quality to the English ones, but the holo pattern is more complex (if not "prettier"), and the colors of the card are generally deeper.

I really cannot see anyone besides local card shops wanting anything to do with that.
Perhaps if it were 2 Booster Boxes and the 16 Holo Promo cards. But why the fuck would anyone need 8 theme decks for themselves. Especially as shitty as the recent ones have been. I only browsed the FlashFire ones, but they seemed less than mediocre - anyone have an argument against that?
