https://youtu.be/UOIPUi5k6MAAlright, this is the new Pokemon Generations episode. Notice anything about it? It's based on Platinum. The previous episodes were based on ORAS, which make sense considering those were the most recent interpretations of Hoenn, but let's take a step back and think about this. They chose Platinum's story over Diamond and Pearl, but went with Ruby and Sapphire over Emerald. Now here's the eye opener
Remember Emerald's story. What does Team Magma do? Fucking nothing of interest other than filler added in to make them relevant. The only story beat Magma ever do are the Mt. Chimney and Mt. Pyre segments. Every other instance focuses on Aqua, with Magma trailing behind. Magma gets an added dungeon and fight with Steven because most of the game is Aqua's story. This means Emerald was essentially a glorified Sapphire remake with some elements to make Magma look bad so it isn't entirely lopsided who is the villain
Game Freak knew this and decided to just remake Ruby and Sapphire instead, also possibly because the previous generations also did it. Do I think ORAS are lazy pieces of shit that were probably cobbled together so they didn't have to touch Kalos again? Yes. Do I think some more Emerald elements should have been used for the remakes than what we got? Most definitely
But, if there is any hope for the future it's that Platinum or at least Giratina focus is the major player for an eventual remake. It also makes me believe Game Freak had Ruby and Sapphire in mind when making Gen III, but had Platinum in mind when making Gen IV and used Diamond and Pearl as just a basis to get used to the DS system. The difference between DP and Platinum is night and day
