Ash and Dawn have had better and more meaningful interactions than both serena and misty combined.
pearlshipping has something special about it that the others don't, it has 2 types of moments.
1. are the standard shipping moments that everyone is familiar with.
2. the "proto-ship" moments. these are the social ones I referred to, these are the special moments that make Ash and Dawns relationship different than the others. they are the things that lovers do for one other that we see them doing, but they don't realize it yet. the special moments that allow Ash and Dawn to have unique interactions above the ordinary "friend" level but below the "lovers" BUT this unique type of interaction leads into said "lover"

Cheering for Ash in a cheerleader outfit.
giving him a private show when he was feeling down.
going to see him in person to cheer in his biggest moment.
