Iris is the regional champion of Unova in the game & anime while Alain is just overglorified OC that only became one of the Master Eight because he is some executives self insert. Normally Alain should even be on Master Eight, it should have ether Alder or Tobias.

It's rare that the ratings go as low as 79, let alone two steps down.

Both Alain and Ash are, canonically in their own anime(up until JN jumped the shark because they needed to retire Ash), at the "can just barely win a league if there's no Tobias around" power level.
That's nowhere good enough to be a champion. There are leagues going on all the time in all the regions, and none of the champions/elite 4 have been replaced other than Alder(who didn't want his job anymore), Lorelei, and Agatha.

Yes, the anime nerfed Iris considerably. But she was out of frame for two entire generations and became a champion during that time, so she returned to at least some of her original power level.
Alain had been away for one generation and he did not dethrone Diantha, so there's no evidence of him having the power level needed.

Normally this is gay, I would agree, but Iris was specifically nerfed in the anime because she shared screentime with the deadweight bad-influence Ash Ketchum. If it weren't for him, she would have been the champion in B2W2. Powering he up offscreen to the level she SHOULD have been at from the start where the chuuni executive can no longer nerf her is understandable.

lol, Iris got an off-screen power up because they were going to have the Master 8 to be mostly champions and Alder's VA is dead and he is less marketable then Iris. If there was no Master 8, Iris would have been in the same position as she was at the end of BW.

Its a canon series of the show with Scot stating each Frontier Brain were as strong as Agatha, an E4 member.

Terastalization needs the energy emitting from Paldean soil to stalize there which is already mentioned in the official website. Even Briar used soil from Paldea on Terrarium orb to stabilise Terastal energy on Terrarium.

Hey guys, its the recapanon who loves researching Shudo stuff. I'm tired of reading our flamebaiting friend argue the same things over and over, so I'm gonna start a different argument.

Last thread (or the one before) someone brought up whether the games or the anime started Pokemania. Obviously its not an either-or thing, since the games, anime, TCG, manga, movies, etc. all combined to make Pokemania a thing. But I found this old ass journal report on a conference attended by Tsunekazu Ishihara, Masakazu Kubo (ShoPro), and Takashi Kawaguchi (Nintendo) talking about how Pokemon became so successful. They chalked it up to "incremental development" which allowed them to integrate all of the parts together.

But then they quote game sales numbers shortly before and after the anime aired in picrel. It seems like there's a clear before/after point where sales exploded, and that was with the anime. Worth noting that this is all Japanese sales for 1997 that they're referencing. The game and anime were both released in North America in September 1998, with the anime coming before the games by a few weeks. Masakazu Kubo wrote a book called "Pokemon Story" where he discusses the media integration aspect in great detail. Portions of it have been translated into English by Dogasu on his site. I wanted them to get rid of Ash for a while now. I wanted a new protagonist with more of an edge, with more room to grow as a person. Someone who doesn't start out as a role model but becomes one as he attains more experience and understanding. Maybe someone with a sharper tongue than Ash, or who has a nastier sense of humor. It didn't need to be raunchy or horrible. I was just tired of how Christ-like and pure Ash had become, to the point of not having any real antagonistic rivals.

So imagine my disappointment with how sanitized, polite, and hesitant-to-do-anything Liko and Roy are. They really are the TV heroes for a generation of fucking pussies. They have no grit, they have no drive, and they have no balls. Oh! And they have no social adversity to overcome. They're surrounded by nice adults. The antagonists don't even address them with words. These kids have been static little role models for politeness and waiting for grownups since their debut. For shame. They're so afraid to make a fun show.

The very fact that how sanitized & polite modern Ash has become was already a big sign of how bad new protagonist going to be if Ash ever goes away. Its painfully obvious that the executive who handles OLM has fanfic tier idea of characterization. In his eyes, edgelord are "victims" so they should be automatically stronger than everybody, idea girls has to be passive & submissive, good protagonist has to be pure and saint-like.

Goh was definitely the best option. He had rivals, insecurities, shortcomings, and a goal that was intrinsically tied to the core Pokémon franchise. A goal that could take him anywhere. You want battles? Give him a rival that wants to capture the same Pokémon as him, and they have it out. He had that drive, humor, and passion that Liko and Roy lack.

They might have fucked it up anyway, even Goh became a bit too nice and wise over time. I'm glad the two part finale was centered on his largely emotional reaction to Ash's attitude about parting ways. His feelings were valid, but his reaction was childish and raw. It's the kind of thing Pokémon doesn't do enough, letting these characters fuck up and feel bad and grow from it.

Something that sucks about Liko is that she has not yet failed at anything she attempted to accomplish. I'm not sure what there is to overcome for her in her arc. She often speaks of 'taking her first steps' with Nyahoja as a momentous occasion, but that's sort of where her story began and ended.

Yes, I know. It's a vague, nebulous goal, but it is a goal nonetheless. It'd just be nice to see her FAIL once or twice to motivate her to work hard and grow.
