My parents aren't rich, but live reasonably well, so i'd probably be able to get a starter, certainly Mudkip.
At that time i wanted to be a paleontologist, so maybe in a fantasy world where money isn't that much of an issue and where i could even revive the fossils i studied, i could have actually followed that profession. If i were to have a full team on those terms, i guess something like this, either basic or evolved forms:

As of trainer archetypes, ruin maniac is the most fitting, or maybe hiker. Who knows, in the future i might become a professor and move to Rustboro, maybe even become the Gym Leader there.
