You are spouting absolute bullshit that what Cheren has doesn't have a valid foundation for joining Opelucid Gym, when apparently his fuckall counts for heading a Normal type gym. He never owned a Lillipup or Patrat before. There's nothing stopping him from getting a Zweilous and another Haxorus-line Pokemon.
You have to face the fact there was nothing stopping them from making Cheren take the or a 8th gym spot---at least not the literal 1st one. How is it more plausible for Lenora and Cilan and his brothers to retire than Drayden? How is it more plausible to put Cheren in the lowest rung of the order when they gave themselves 2 spots with which to shuffle things around? You do realize they could have moved the Triplet's gym somewhere to the middle at least and given Cheren Fire, Grass, and Water Pokemon?
