>>39609728I'm really fine when characters go in either direction. Whether it's cliche or if it subverts my expectations entirely, I think all that matters is the execution. If they can nail down a good aesthetic, I'm usually a big fan right off the bat.
But I honestly don't think Pokemon has a lot of impressive trainer or gym leader/E4 designs. A lot of them are pretty cute and nicely done, but the designs themselves usually don't "wow" me.
