Is it just my autism, or do move names lack a certain punch past Gen 4-5? Putting aside intentionally over the top shit like Z-Moves, it feels around Gen 6 or so move names feel like they're either trying too hard to sound impressive to the point of feeling like they ought to be in a different RPG or are exceptionally childish. Here's what I mean:
Before you have moves that either sounded like maneuvers or had a snappy and sharp callout to them, things like
>Bubble Beam
>Minimize
>Octazooka
>Steel Wing
>Dragon Pulse
>Tickle
>Meditate
>Thief
>Aerial Ace
>Sunny Day/Rain Dance/Sandstorm/Hail
>Flare Blitz
>Frenzy Plant
But then you move onto Gen 6 and on and you start getting things that feel a little less inspired:
>Baby-Doll Eyes
>Baneful Bunker
>High Horsepower
>Crafty Shield
>Make it Rain
>Dual Wingbeat
>Infernal Parade
>Grassy Glide
>False Surrender
I don't know. I'm not gonna pretend we didn't have old moves that started sounding mouthy like Roar of Time or Sacred Sword, but since those tended to be on legendaries it felt like it was warranted to be a little Final Fantasy-like if you understand what I mean. You do still get some perfectly good things like Pyro Ball or Moonblast or Torch Song or Jet Punch or even Dragon Hammer, but am I the only one who feels like there was a change in naming philosophy?
