Just nods and Easter eggs for people that are looking. The theme they appear to be going for with this epilogue is VERY Ash/Pokemon focused, on top of that the vibe I get from the interviews is one of Ash being this quintessential 10 year old boy without a care in the world. Not sure if throwing puppy love into the mix directly adds to that or distracts from it but I'd bet on the latter, much to my own chagrin.
