The difference is I’m enough of an adult to be okay with that.
Misty has a chance (unlike anyone else) but “nothingburger” is still vegas odds. If the ending doesn’t canonize a ship I’ll just enjoy Misty being there for 10 more episode and salute Ash as he rides off into the sunset.
The only way I actually lose is if somehow a literally who wins the Ashbowl or Mistybowl, or if Misty pulls a Serena and confesses only to get rejected, but honestly even that would be funny for shitposting.

Misty doesn't have the feminine energy to get Ash glued to her (unlike Giselle and Latias), she also lacks romantic perception (unlike Anabel and Millefeui)
Without a strong FEMALE motivating Ash to be attracted, Ash wouldn't bother to invest into a romantic relationship
Those are the only 4 girls that have a chance of having a meaningful relationship with Ash, imo Misty would realistically drift towards a Drew-esque type of guy sooner or later if we're talking actual romance here

That's the the episode, that's just salty people mad at not getting hwat they want like children. Honestly, this episode was a pretty solid entry and only proved further that JN would've been much better if it had just been Ash on his own from the start. Traveling alone and occasionally partnering up with old friends while cycling out whatever Pokemon as much as he wanted. This episode and this series in general is just what JN should've been from the get-go. Koharu and Go and the Sakurai Lab in it's entirety really were the big problem with that series.

The problem was the execution of the ideas and the characters, imo. The Lab setting with so many species of Pokemon, the world tour format, Goh and Koharu were all fine and actually offered immense potential - but it was all poorly implemented. Still, I wouldn't trade JN for more of this as I still enjoyed JN. I'll enjoy this mini-series too, even though I already have concerns its ideas and direction will suffer from poor execution as well.

How is it unacceptable when it’s literally Ash and his Pokémon rescuing and rehabilitating a Legendary Pokémon all on their own? Compare this to DP94 when Brock first taught Ash and Dawn first aid and it’s like night and day. The goal of this series is for Ash to reach his dream of being a Pokémon Master and I’m pretty sure Ash displayed qualities of one in this episode.

The main reason you know they'll bring Ash back is because the last 11 episodes aren't wrapping anything up. OS Ash wasn't goofy and retarded, he just just forgetful and lacked knowledge. Most of his nativity and bratty attitude made sense considering his age and it made him more realistic. Rewatching the OS series shown me that OS Ash was pretty smart for a 10 year old kid.

Only self inserter like you who considers human garbage like Yusei and Sesshomaru as prime standard for protagonist consider him to be goofy and retarded. OS Ash was more like characters such as Ataru (Urusei Yatsura), Gintoki (Gintama) and Iori (Grand Blue) who look dumb on surface but actually smarter and competent than other characters.

Take two examples from the series: Friends to the End (OS) vs Seeing the Forest for the Trees (XY).
Both girls try to cheer Ash up after his loss. Misty offers to take Ash out to cheer him up, while Serena tries to relate with him. Ash reacts to both these offers in a similar way: aggression. Both girls understandably get upset.
However, Serena then brings up how Ash isn't acting like she thinks he should, as if he shouldn't be feeling bad about his loss and should always be energetic and happy. Misty, on the other hand, seems to understand that Ash's mood is natural. She gets angry because Ash is being rude, not because he feels bad about his loss.
Perhaps I am misinterpreting something here, but to me Misty is more aware of Ash's feelings than Serena.

Don't forget that both situations are vastly different. In OS, Ash was a rookie who'd just experienced his first League loss, that too after he'd built himself up to be on top of the world. Not to mention, he was an asshole throughout the series. In short, Ash WAS acting like himself.
In Kalos, on the other hand, he was heavily overreacting to his defeat and he even started screaming at Serena. Hell, I'm 99% sure he started throwing backhanded insults at her, like claiming she 'couldn't understand' what he was going through (i.e. failure, feeling like you're not 'good enough') when she obviously did; almost like his sense of failure was 'above' hers.
Both scenes involved Ash at vastly different points of maturity, both personality and career wise, and while Misty had seen Ash at his worst and most childish, Serena had always seen Ash at his strongest and most stalwart; for her, Ash throwing a massive bitchfit over at something like losing, that too after preaching at everyone else the whole season, was 100% out of character.
It's not that one character understands Ash better than the other, it's just that both characters knew Ash at different points in his life.

That's mostly it. It does pale in comparison to all the shit Ash/Serena got, but they avoided all of that later with JN105 with the "reunion", so Ash/Misty chances are slim too.

I mean, disliking XY Ash for his characterization is fair. I don't really agree with the idea that he was CHANGED in any way though, just that he didn't really have anyone to really pull his worst to the surface or even call him out on it; like a rival who challenged everything he stood for, a childhood companion who knows how to poke holes through his composure, or just stunting his emotional maturity for the sake of 'comedy'. Plus, they'd already seen with Iris that a lot of people didn't really enjoy seeing someone call Ash out on his idiot behavior all the time.
Ash was a brash, impatient idiot even in XY, and the others sometimes called him out on it, and they sometimes didn't. It's just that he had fewer moments like that because he was the 'leader' of the group, and because he was at peak 'maturity'.
This is just a random anon's interpretation though, take it with a grain of salt.
