If D/P were the only games of that Gen i would've probably thought of the gen as Average, but Platinum came and fixed a lot of the issues, turning it into one of my Top 3 faves in the series (alongside HG/SS that released in the same gen). XY was pretty much parallel to D/P. A Z version could've easily been a Top 3 game. Since all the heavy lifting was already done, they only needed to flesh out the characters and region a bit more to make it stand out, which would've been a fantastic 20th anniversary game. But Gamefreak decided to rush the fuck out of Gen 7, which left us with 2 really fucking underwhelming Gens back to back. I hate this company so much.
