I'm not an Ash fan per say, but I do miss the tone of the previous couple of series, this new show is boring as fuck. Some of them (the most recent episode especially) waste a lot of time on purpose, like Liko rehashing why her relationship with Nyahoja is so important. It's like this series thinks that because it has a long-running story to tell, it can shirk its obligation to entertain as long as baby steps are taken towards the next plot beat.
I also just have to say it really is a shame that we can't have any good sakuga in this series unless Pikachu or Charizard is involved. That's really, really fucking sad to me, considering the finale of the Masters 8 was an entire fucking episode of Pikachu and Charizard animation. I like Friede, but leaving all the action to an arcless character who is already sure of himself and confident in his life is a recipe for underwhelming conclusions. When Friede wins a battle, I feel nothing, because he has no personal business to overcome as a character.
I wanted something new out of this show, and I certainly got it, but I guess I just plain don't like what I got, ironically.
