I'm really surprised how many people hated the recent episode, it was a fun episode and the battle with the Alakazam was not even meant to be a regular battle. Given Tomioka wrote the episode it felt like he was trying to do a mix of an SM comedy episode and an important ep. The whole first half of the episode and the giant lilipads and sliding down the ice mountain with Sableye, Go falling into Camerupts humps, etc....all reminded me of stuff SM used to do.

Weird since Tomioka barely wrote for SM at all besides the Litten eps.

I know what the problem is with Ash having a Lucario. Lucario is designed to be a partner pokemon, not a side pokemon. Lucario can't be the partner pokemon since Pikachu holds that title. Lucario is player 3.

I think it's hysterical that Journeys could be the exact same show it is right now, with the only minor adjustment being a gender change for Goh (not changing his design at all, just pronouns and voice) and /padt/ would hail it as the greatest series of all time and thirst endlessly for Goh.

I can't fucking take it anymore why are Koharu episodes so bad. Why does she get a free pass from the fanbase. Holy shit there is absolutely nothing entertaining about her or her Eevee. All the recent episodes of Journies have been very good. Only shit ep recently was the one with the blue pokemaniacs but it was just a filler anyway.

So much good stuff coming consistently, the series really did rebound from the first year where it was mostly just fillers for Go to capture pokemon or Ash having 1 on 1's against random nobodies.

People complain about Koharu's Eevee eps but we've only had what...2 of them so far?

- The Vaporeon ep was mostly a water race with Dracovish so it wasn't even a pure Eevee episode

- Umbreon/Espeon ep was a pretty decent ep I thought, an alternate Koharu and a johto themed ep with that ninja kid wanting to de-throne the princess.

I don't know how people can judge these yet when we've barely had any so far. We still have Glaceon, then Leafeon, Sylveon and Flareon and Jolteon to go.

Koharu episodes have to routinely lobotomize Ash and Goh so they can stand on the sidelines and act shocked over the conundrum of the day when they both have a veritable treasure trove of Pokemon in their pockets that could handle shit more efficiently than Eevee. The Umbreon/Espeon episode was peak soulless, the doppelganger character was a confusing and inessential addition that the episode hardly did anything with, not to mention Koharu's extremely unique hairstyle makes it hard to believe she'd ever have someone look so similar to her, at the same age, without being related. It's retarded and it didn't even lead to any fun character moments or humor. It was just.. an idea with no followup or utility. At least the Vaporeon episode gave Dracovish and Dewgong some spotlight but knowing they've established a formula for these episodes makes it hard to look forward to the next ones. I'd rather have comedic filler than Koharu development.

It feels like Koharu's presence only creates limits for Ash and Go. When she's around you know there won't be lots of fighting, there won't be lots of bombastic comedy, and Ash and Go will probably interact with each other less, which is bad when their friendship is one of the few unique things PM has going for it.

When I was a kid, if I saw Shaggy wearing a red shirt in Scooby Doo, I knew that Scrappy was going to be in the special, and I knew it was going to be some weak shit. Koharu is the red shirt Shaggy. Eevee is Scrappy.

Koharu’s problem is she is written to serve the plot then actually be a fun character in her own right. Early on, she was fine. Being a reluctant third party who sometimes gets involved with the boys shenanigans was a good role for her. Of course, waifufags ruined it by complaining about Koharu lack of focus, so the writers gave us the Eevee storyline.

Well since they split the starters among the main cast Ash didn't have many options left:

- Powerhouse pokemon like Salamence, Metagross and even Flygon were considered off-limits for main characters at the time

- Gardevoir is too feminine for Ash, he would never get a Pokemon like that

- Only other fire type available was Camerupt, so the writers probably chose Torkoal since it has no evolutions.

That's actually why I prefer Ash only getting 1 starter, because that way the writers are forced to give him some other pokemon in the region he normally would not capture.

They usually reserve the wild card slot for the last Pokemon he captures, like Phanpy, Snorunt/Glalie, Gliscor, Gible, Noviern, etc. BW I guess would count for Krookodile, Palpitoad and Boldore who don't feel like typical Ash Pokemon either.

Yes but they were executed well in every scene. Their dialogue was always comical and they managed to not cross the line of tedium.
A lot of series suffer from having TR show up as often as they do, but it worked really well for DP which is why it's objectively the best series.

Fuck no, they were horrid in DP. They appeared in like every fucking episode doing the exact same fucking boring shite only to be blasted off. In SM, they were usually doing their own thing as well and not just going retards over Pikachu. Like they had their own cute malasada side buisness. And not to mention they were strong too, Mimikyu was a godamn beast that even defeated Pikachu early on. They got their own Z rings as well and even participated in the league. And they found a family with Bewear and Stufful, plus their pokemon. For once, it seemed like the writers were treating TR as more than just obligatory punching bag villains

Corphish and Torkoal were meant to fulfill his Water and Fire quotas that he has on teams at the the time. May and Brock already had the starters. Ash already had a Kingler, so Corphish was not a big stretch. There were not that many Gen 3 Fire types, and among those Torkoal was the only one that was a pure type all of the time. Ash also had a wild card Pokémon, his sixth member that usually added a new type to his team. By the time Ash needed a sixth Pokémon, several Pokémon and their lines were already introduced and in full. The Snorunt line was the only one aside from Beldum where none of its members were introduced in the anime. Since Beldum was reserved for a rival, Ash was given Snorunt instead. That Snorunt evolved into Glalie to pad out his team.
