All it does is save you the tedium of grinding wild/trainer battles over and over to level up your Pokemon and have a balanced party. It's a QoL improvement.
No, sweetie, you're not "hardcore" for grinding wild battles or sweeping the league with your OP lvl 100 Poke to level up a benched Pokemon
